What we offer
As a leading global asset manager, Aberdeen Standard Investments is dedicated to creating long-term value for our clients.
We do this through a commitment to excellence as well as our depth of expertise across a talented team providing a combination that continues to deliver potential and give our customers confidence. Our people are our greatest asset and have a passion to collaborate for the greatest outcomes on a global scale. Whether you join on an Early careers programme or are an experienced hire we ensure that you are immersed in our culture, have the right environment to be developed and reward you for your efforts.
From day one, you’ll contribute to our ambitions of forming a world-class asset management company. You will be given real work with tangible outputs.
This takes cooperation and collaboration across all levels of our business. You’ll find your teammates and colleagues are there to help you settle in, to get your perspective on things, and to help push you towards achieving your personal goals too.
"The whole culture is about teamwork. I have now worked in three different teams across the business and teamwork has been central to all of them."
"I feel lucky to work in a place where you are encouraged to chat to anyone, regardless of their experience or seniority. I think this creates a friendly culture where grads are able to grow and develop very fast."
"The people you work with on a daily basis are friendly and always willing to share information and experiences within the industry. The organisation is filled with impressive people who have done remarkable things, across specialities and disciplines, and they are always happy to pass on their knowledge."
"Being a part of such a large organisation has the advantage of attracting a large cohort of graduates each year, whom are all in the same position and support each other – it is nice to have good friends in the office."
Our intern programme gives you a valuable opportunity to learn about our business, our people and our culture.
Over 10 weeks, you’ll have exposure to real business situations, with real responsibility – allowing you to make informed decisions on your future career, whilst having the chance to show us what you can do.
On completion of your internship, you can then apply for our graduate programme in one of our streams – where you will have multiple team rotations throughout the department to enable your development and provide you with a more broad view of the area, coupled with the ability to expand your network. In addition to a structured development programme in a highly supportive team environment, you will gain invaluable skills and experience on which to grow your future career.
Regardless of your role in our business, we aim to build experience through cooperation and collaboration. We also pride ourselves on the natural sense of community we have – ensuring great support from colleagues and peers, allowing everyone to reach their full potential.
"The openness of colleagues to less formal channels for development such as mentoring and monthly catch-ups offers a more casual way to learn from others. Once you work out what suits you will be sure to find something that works."
"One of the biggest development opportunities we get on the Operations programme is at the end of each of our placements we get the chance to showcase ourselves – detailing everything we have learnt, our key achievements and what value we have added to the Operations leadership team."
"The organisation is filled with impressive people who have done remarkable things, across specialities and disciplines, and they are always happy to pass on their knowledge."
"The exposure you get to various areas of the business and to senior people, who you can learn from directly, is unparalleled."
Our belief is a job is so much more than just the salary. Benefits come in many forms and should be flexible to meet the needs of individuals.
We offer a very competitive benefits package that includes financial, health and lifestyle options. You can tailor these to best suit your individual needs, and the best part is you can change them as your needs change over the years.
"It’s not just the workplace culture; Aberdeen Standard Investments actively promotes a good work-life balance with manageable working hours, lots of health benefits including subsidised gym membership, and plenty of chances to socialise."
"I have also been supported through professional qualifications to gain my Investment Management Certificate and also a Diploma in Business Analysis."
"I joined because of the global scale and the opportunity to rotate around the firm. As someone who has an interest in languages and travelling, this very much appealed to me."
"The merger between Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life is arguably the most exciting and potentially beneficial thing that could have happened to us as graduates during our development programs. We joined a large, well-respected asset manager; we now work for the second largest asset manager in Europe."
Throughout Aberdeen Standard Investments you will engage with the very best talent.
These individuals value the input you will have to our organisation; they are driven to set you up for success. Many even came through the early career programmes like internships and graduate placements. Be it the CEOs, Heads of Department or your placement manager, they all value fresh ideas, enthusiasm and diversity.
“It’s one of the most important aspects of our business and the ability to recruit new talent into our business is vital for the ongoing success of Aberdeen Standard Investments.”
Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive, Standard Life Aberdeen plc
“Graduates are among the most valuable players on the team, providing strategy and multi-asset with research, analysis and operational support. They develop specific expertise in different fields, for example valuations, econometrics, machine learning and politics; and work together on to deliver an array of shared analytical tasks. They bring freshness, energy and enthusiasm.”
Frances Hudson, Global Thematic Strategist
“Both interns and graduates are great for our business as they are hungry to learn and progress. They can be a wonderful source of insight as they use and do things differently. Our graduates have the potential to be our future leaders.”
Stephen Docherty, Head of Global Equities EMEA
“Each year we have taken interns, mostly as a feeder to future graduate programmes but also just for the mutual value of the internship due to the incredible value they add. We benefit enormously by hiring interns and graduates. Their inclusion is essential to creating diversity, fresh thinking and vibrancy within our overall workforce.”
Brian Reid, Head of Change, Investment Technology Solutions
