Helping insurers optimise their asset yield and capital efficiency and meet their reporting requirements

Insurers have unique investment needs. On the one hand they need to generate sufficient returns on their assets to meet long-term commitments to policyholders. On the other, stringent regulation means that any investment risk needs to be balanced against solvency capital requirements and the potential for balance sheet volatility.

At Aberdeen Standard Investments, we’ve been helping insurers manage these challenges for almost 200 years. We provide access to a range of strategies and asset classes that target to help enhance the risk-adjusted return on a portfolio. Plus we provide a complete service to meet reporting and fiduciary requirements, including complete investment outsourcing where required.

Celebrating success at the Insurance Asset Risk Awards

Investment innovation of the year

We are delighted to have started the year with the news that Aberdeen Standard Investments has been successful in two categories of the 2019 Insurance Asset Risk Awards.

The first award won was in the Investment Innovation of the Year category for the launch of a private markets fund financing strategy launched for the Phoenix Group. This provides investment grade, short duration loans to private markets funds in the earlier years of their life. The strategy is Solvency II compliant and enables investors to benefit from the illiquidity premium available in this type of investment.

Young professional of the year
The second award won was in the Young Professional of the Year category which went to Neo Mooki, Investment Director. Neo was recognised for working closely with our strategic partner, Phoenix Group, to develop and implement innovative capital efficient investment solutions that meet their specific needs, including the above-mentioned private markets fund financing strategy. Neo also worked separately to help develop ASI’s impact investment approach in private markets. These developments are examples of ASI’s ongoing innovation agenda in order to create additional value for our clients.
