Aberdeen Standard Investments have been proud sponsor of Scotland’s Gordon Reid MBE since 2017.
Gordon began playing tennis at six years old, becoming a talented junior player. However, at the age of 12 his world was turned upside down. It was a Friday night when Gordon went to get out of bed and felt his legs give way underneath him.
He was later diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis – a rare neurological condition that affects the spinal cord. It left Gordon without the use of his legs, and wondering if he would ever be able to pick up a tennis racquet again.
However, in an incredible story of courage, determination and overcoming adversity, Gordon refused to let his condition signal the end of his tennis dreams. Instead he has catapulted himself from small town in Scotland onto the global stage, becoming one of the biggest names in wheelchair tennis having claimed Paralympic and Grand Slam titles along the way.
At Aberdeen Standard Investments we believe that true inclusion can only come to life when we take action together, with our colleagues, our customers, our clients and our stakeholders. Our sponsorships personify this.
Aligning our brand with Gordon Reid and others who share our values and ambition helps us to strengthen and build our business around the world, as well as promote an inclusive and diverse workplace.
