  • 2017-12-11: Bloomberg invest Abu Dhabi with Max Wolman, Senior Investment Manager, EMD EMEA.
    Max Wolman participated to a panel discussion on how to identify opportunities in the emerging markets for global growth together with representatives from Bloomberg, Standard Chartered and ADIA.
    Max Wolman is a Senior Investment Manager on the EMD team. He joined Aberdeen in 2001, from Liontrust Asset Management, initially covering FX dealing at Aberdeen. In 2003 he joined the EMD team bringing his knowledge of currencies to help analysis local EM markets. He has since covered EM corporates and helped launch Aberdeen’s EM corporate strategy, offering a top down view when investing in the asset class. Wolman graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business and Hospitality Management from Leeds University and he has a Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of London. Max is a CFA Charterholder
  • 2017-11-05: CFA Society Saudi Arabia with Chris Nicholls, Investment Director, Multi Asset Investing
    Chris Nicholls gave a talk on What is the right framework for building truly diversified portfolios for charterholders and candidates 
    Christopher Nichols is Investment Director, Multi-Asset Investing at Aberdeen Standard Investments. He heads a team of Investment Specialists focussed on our multi-asset range of solutions.   
    Chris’s team is responsible for the development, commercialisation and management of absolute return and other multi-asset solutions. They work with the Multi-Asset Investment Team that draws together a broad array of the firm’s investment strengths to address challenging absolute return and liability driven mandates. Chris joined that team in 2004 and helped to develop our flagship Global Absolute Return Strategies fund that now accounts for over $50bn AUM globally. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries with over 25 years industry experience
  • 2017-10-22: SuperReturn Abu Dhabi with Pertti Vanhanen, Global Co-Head of Real Estate & Graham McDonald, Global Head of Private Equity
    Pertti Vanhanen was speaker at the Real Estate Investment Summit and gave his insights on how Middle Eastern investors can access global opportunities while Graham McDonald talked about investment strategies on a global scale.

    Pertti Vanhanen is Global Co-Head of Real Estate and a member of the Aberdeen Standard Investments’ Investment Management Committee. Pertti began working in the industry in 1988 and has been a key driver in the launch of several non-listed property funds. Pertti holds an Executive MBA, is a Certified Real Estate Manager, a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and a member of the British Property Federation Policy Committee.

    Graham McDonald is Global Head of Private Equity and is responsible for the Private Equity business within the Alternatives Division. He has extensive experience in the private equity sector with a strong network with leading private equity funds and sits on a number of advisory committees. Graham is chairman of the investment and portfolio committees and is also regular speaker on private equity. Previously, Graham worked for Lloyds Banking Group and HBoS leading and having responsibility for their Fund Investment businesses and leveraged buyout teams. Graham is a Chartered Banker and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Scotland).
  • 2017-09-26: the Euromoney Kuwait Conference with Martin Gilbert, Co-CEO
    Martin Gilbert, co-CEO of Aberdeen Standard Investments was invited as keynote speaker at the Kuwait Conference where he was interviewed by Victoria Behn, Director, Middle East and Africa at Euromoney Conference.
    Martin Gilbert, along with Keith Skeoch, became Co-Chief Executive of Standard Life Aberdeen plc, the leading global investment company formed as a result of the merger between Aberdeen Asset Management PLC and Standard Life plc in August 2017.  Both have responsibility for overseeing the multi-billion* of assets under administration.
    Martin was a co-founder and the Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, which was established in 1983. Under Martin’s leadership, Aberdeen became one of the world’s leading independent asset managers through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
    Martin was appointed Chairman of the Prudential Regulation Authority's Practitioner Panel in December 2013. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance. He is also a member of the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the International Advisory Board of British American Business. Martin is also the Deputy Chairman of SKY PLC and a Non-Executive Director of Glencore plc.
