Asset Management Committee
The Asset Management Committee within Aberdeen Standard Investments comprises the senior executives within our organisation, who are responsible for major business areas such as finance, marketing and operations.
Members of this committee have joined from both Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life Investments.
Keith was appointed Chief Executive of Standard Life plc in August 2015, having been Chief Executive of Standard Life Investments since 2004. Keith joined the company in 1999 as Chief Investment Officer. Previously he held several senior positions at James Capel (now HSBC Securities). With the merger between Standard Life plc and Aberdeen Asset Management plc, both Keith and Martin Gilbert were appointed Co-Chief Executive Officers of Standard Life Aberdeen plc in August 2017.
Martin was a co-founder and Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management plc, the holding company of the fund management group that was established in 1983 via management buyout. Under Martin’s leadership, Aberdeen became one of the world’s leading independent asset managers through a combination of organic growth and acquisition. Martin sits on the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance, is a member of the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the International Advisory Board of British American Business.
Kerry joined Aberdeen Asset Management in March 2000. Kerry was appointed to her current role in October 2003 and joined the Group management board in 2010. Kerry graduated from Robert Gordon University with a BA in Public Administration and holds a post graduate diploma in personnel management.
Sean has over 20 years’ experience in the investment management industry, having been a founding member of the Ernst and Young (EY) investment management practice in London. He was Financial Controller of Aviva Investors from 2001 to 2005 joining Standard Life Investments in 2005 as CFO and director of several regulated subsidiary companies. Sean’s career has encompassed roles in audit, regulatory, systems and corporate finance activities, in addition to managerial responsibilities.
Campbell Fleming is the Head of Distribution at Aberdeen Standard Investments, and is responsible for all client relations and service, sales, business development and client investment specialists across the globe.
Campbell Fleming joined Aberdeen Standard Investments as a result of the merger between Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life in August 2017. Campbell joined Aberdeen Asset Management in August 2016 from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he was the Chief Executive – EMEA and Global COO, having joined the firm in November 2009 as the Global Head of Distribution. Previously, Campbell worked for JPMorgan Asset Management as Head of UK after performing a variety of roles within the firm and Europe. Campbell had joined JPMorgan with its acquisition of Robert Fleming Asset Management in 2000 (which he joined in 1997). Prior to that, Campbell worked for Financial Service regulators in the UK and Australia as well as the Attorney General’s Department in Sydney, where he completed his Legal training.
Campbell graduated in 1991 with a Dip Law at Barristers Admission Board through the Law Extension Committee, Sydney University. Campbell was admitted as a Barrister to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1991, and to the Supreme Court of England & Wales as a non-practising Solicitor. Campbell is the Chair of the Investment Association Trade Committee, and previously has been the Chair of ICI Global as well as been on the advisory and statutory boards of The CityUK and The Investment Association.
Bev has thirty years of experience in the asset management industry having joined Aberdeen at its headquarters in Scotland in 1987 where he set up Aberdeen’s mutual fund business. Bev moved to the United States in 1995 to establish Aberdeen’s business in the Americas.
As Director for Investments Technology, Jonathan is responsible for the oversight of all business change and technology provision within the business. With 26 years industry experience, Jonathan has held a number of senior roles in financial services prior to joining Standard Life Investments in March 2016, most recently being the COO of Virgin Money.
Gary has been with Aberdeen since 1997. He served as Chief Executive of Aberdeen’s primary fund management companies in UK and Luxembourg and played a leading role in the company’s relationship with Lloyds Banking Group. Gary joined Aberdeen via the acquisition of Prolific Financial Management (then a UK asset management subsidiary of Scottish Provident) in 1997.
Robert started his career with Standard Life Investments in 1997 as a portfolio manager within our Japanese equity team. He was subsequently promoted to Head of Japanese Equities in 2002. In 2008 he was then appointed Head of EAFE funds. Robert became Global Head of Product in 2010 with responsibility for product development, investment specialists, RFPs and presentations and management and governance across our global business.
Rod started his career at Standard Life Investments as Head of Global Fixed Income in May 2002, was appointed to the Board in June 2004 and has been Chief Investment Officer since 2007. He was previously Managing Director and Head of the Global Fixed Income team at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Prior to this, Rod was a director of Mercury Asset Management and also worked with Warburg Asset Management and Chase Manhattan Bank. Rod was appointed to the board of Standard Life Aberdeen plc in August 2017.
Mandy joined Aberdeen Asset Management in 2001. Prior to that, Mandy was an Investment Dealer at F&C Investment Management. Before that, Mandy worked at BNP Capital Markets. Her City career began at Grieveson Grant in the private client department. Mandy has a wealth of experience and is widely recognised across the industry as one of the most experienced and insightful dealing practitioners.
Mike joined Standard Life as a graduate trainee in 1994. At the end of 2001, Mike was appointed Head of Change Management for Standard Life Investments where he was responsible for a number of major strategic change programmes. In October 2005, Mike assumed the position of Head of Investment Operations at Standard Life Investments, being appointed to the Board as Executive Director of Operations in August 2010.
Hugh Young founded Singapore-based Aberdeen Asia in 1992 and has been managing the Group’s Asian equities since 1985. Hugh is a director of a number of Group subsidiary companies and Aberdeen-managed investment trusts and funds. Hugh graduated with a BA in Politics from Exeter University.
